Mozart's The Magic Flute
19 & 20 December 2025, Friday & Saturday
Step into an enchanting world where light battles darkness, and destinies are shaped by courage and love. Join Prince Tamino on his daring quest to rescue Pamina, the daughter of the Queen of the Night. Guided by a magical flute and accompanied by his comical companion Papageno, he braves mysterious trials, confronting danger and deception in search of truth and enlightenment.
Mozart's The Magic Flute has captivated audiences for centuries with its exhilarating Queen of the Night aria and dazzling score, brought vividly to life through unforgettable characters, playful comedy and breathtaking visuals.
Directed by acclaimed opera director Harry Fehr, the classic is re-imagined with a fresh, contemporary edge. Whilst highlighting the timeless battle between good and evil, the work’s treatment of women is examined through a modern lens. Alongside its more serious themes, the opera sparkles with humour and enchantment—through the antics of Papageno and Papagena, the mischief of the Three Ladies, and the fairytale quest of a prince and princess.
With its lighter, modern presentation, this fresh adaptation is designed to engage first-time audiences while offering new perspectives to seasoned opera lovers.
At its heart, The Magic Flute is a story of self-discovery, reconciliation, and the triumph of light over darkness—retold for today’s generation.
This opera is sung in German with English and Chinese surtitles. Dialogues are spoken in English.
