In celebration of SG60 and Singapore Lyric Opera’s 35th anniversary, Singapore Lyric Opera (SLO) returns with Bizet’s Carmen in a bold and thrilling new adaptation set in 1960s Singapore—a period of transformation, cultural vibrancy, and newfound independence.

Bizet’s Carmen remains a timeless masterpiece of love, passion, and fate. This fresh retelling transports audiences to the heart of Singapore’s golden era, weaving the opera’s unforgettable music with the rich tapestry of our city’s past.

In this exciting new setting, the fiery and free-spirited Carmen captivates all who cross her path, including Don José, whose love for her spirals into obsession. But as she turns to the charismatic Escamillo, jealousy and fate take a tragic turn.
