Singapore born baritone William Lim began his studies in singing with Choo Hwee Lim locally before advancing his studies to Tokyo at the Shobi Music Conservatoire with Tomiko Sossi, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts studying with Michael Rippon, London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying with Rudolf Piernay and in Manchester at the Royal Northern College of Music with Patrick McGuigan. He was awarded the Silver Rose Award at the Rosa Ponselle International Voice Competition, New York.
He has sung in Mozart’s Bastien und Bastien, Die Zauberflöte, Cosi fan tutte, Don Giovanni and Le Nozze di Figaro; Handel’s Acis and Galatea, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Puccini’s La Boheme, Madama Butterfly, Manon Lescaut and Turandot; Verdi’s Ernani, Rigoletto and La Traviata; Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci, Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Il Campnello di Notte; Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia; Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann; Strauss’ Salome, Weber’s Abu Hassan, Roth’s Arion and the Dolphin, Kurt Weill’s Street Scenes, Three Penny Opera, Britten’s Noye’s Fludde and The Midsummer’s Night Dream.
He has also sung in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Mass in C, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, St. Pauls, Mozart’s Requiem, Mozart’s Vespaere solennes de Confessore, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, B Minor Mass, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, The Creation, Handel’s Messiah, Verdi’s Requiem, Poulenc’s Le Bal Masque, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, Charpentier’s Te Deum, Asian premiere of Kagel’s ..den 24.XII. 1931, in collaboration with Singapore Lyric Opera, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, The Singapore Arts Festival, Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Celebration Chorus, The Nanyang Academy for Fine Arts, The Hong Kong Oratorio Society, The Bangkok Opera, NUNI production, The Penang Art’s Council, Friends of the Scottish Opera, Choral Trust Chamber Ensemble in Nottingham (England), Lleisiau Gwent Choral Society (Wales) and Orpheus Choir (England).
