Tom Hawkes

Tom Hawkes (London) studied at the Royal Academy of Music. His most recent productions for Singapore Lyric Opera were Mozart's Don Giovanni and Cosi fan Tutte. He is no stranger to Singapore having directed Carmen, The Magic Flute, Rigoletto, The Barber of Seville, Die Fledermaus, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth for the company. Other work in Singapore includes four chamber operas for the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and children’s opera Help, Help the Gobolinks.

Appointments include Artistic Director of Phoenix Opera and Morley Opera and Director of Productions for The English Bach Festival and Director of Productions for Castleward Festival Opera with works including Rigoletto, La Bohème, Così fan Tutte, Die Fledermaus that were all nominated for Best Production at the Irish Theatre Awards.

His career has taken him all over the world from Canada to Hong Kong and Trinidad to New Zealand as well as many international opera festivals throughout Europe. In London, he has worked at Covent Garden, English National Opera, Sadler’s Wells and in the West End. He is a specialist in eighteenth century Baroque Opera as well as having a light hand with Operetta. As a painter he will have his first one man show in France this autumn.
