Tan Sin Sim

Tan Sin Sim has been hailed as a “standout” with a pinglike, bright and clear with the warm quality as a lyric soprano. Her versatility as a performer allows her to excel in the genres of opera, oratorio, art song and folk song.

Sin Sim has been seen onstage with such companies in the United States such as New York Lyric Opera Theatre, and Amadeus Opera Long Island. The roles she has portrayed include Giulietta (I Capuleti e I Montecchi), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Romilda (Serse), Adina (L’elisir D’amore), Tamiri (Il Re Pastore), Annina (La Traviata), Frasquita (Carmen), A Singer (La Rondine), The Second Hand Maiden (Dido and Aeneas), Spirit (Cendrillon), Friend 1 (The Ballad of Baby Doe), Martha (Company), and The Queen of Night (The Magic Flute).

Sin Sim’s concert credits include Soprano Soloist in Mozart and Beethoven’s Coronation Mass; Handel’s Messiah, Joseph Martin’s Season of Wonders, Brahms’ Lieberslieder Waltz, Bach’s Magnificat in D Major and Hayden’s Die Schöpfung; Soprano 1 Chorus in Rossini’s Stabat Mater.

In competitions Sin Sim has received many accolades including the 1st Place Winner (Gold Award) of The 4th New Tang Dynasty Television International Chinese Vocal Competition in New York. Born in Malaysia, Sin Sim began her voice training at the age of nine. Sin Sim studied vocal performance at the University of Malaya. She was then graduated with a Master Degree in Voice and Opera Performance from The Boston Conservatory of Music. Sin Sim is currently a member of the Voice Faculty at The School of The Arts (SOTA) Singapore, Singapore Raffles Music College and Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore (NUS).
