Moe Kasim

Moe received training in the performance arts with the SAF Music and Drama Company in the 1990’s. Beyond his triple threat talent (singing, acting & dance), he later pursued his true passion in costume design. From his humble beginnings as a self-taught designer, he quickly learnt the ropes and worked his way up with outstanding success, with credits & recognition of his creative work that were featured in major national events such as the National Day Parade 2006 as well as the annual Chingay Parade.

His articulate attention to accurate details, creative eye for colorful & meaningful designs for numerous stage productions commissioned by W!ld Rice’s pantomimes (sold-out performances) like - Aladdin (2004), Oi! Sleeping Beauty! (2005); and Toy Factory’s Titoudao (2007), won him national acclaim from the larger arts community. Moe has won Best Costume Design in Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards’ for many consecutive years.

Subsequently he achieved the prestigious honor with the same award for Liao Zhai Rocks (2011). His works in Secret Life of Nora starring Tiara Jacquelina, Ryan Silverman and Aznil was also nominated for Best Costumes in the 9th BOH Cameronians Arts Award in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2011).

Moe’s credits for costumes in theatre include Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Jack and the Bean Sprout, The Magic Fundoshi, Singapore Theatre Festival 2008, 2009 and 2011, Happy Endings: Asian Boys Vol.3, Beauty World for W!ld Rice, Dream Academy’s Broadway Beng Series 1, 2 and 3, Dim Sum Dollies musical revue series, History Of Singapore, Kumar the Queen, Sing Dollar, Multiple Personalities Disorder, Liao Zhai Rocks and Cinderel-Lah.

Apart from theatre, Moe also designs costumes for glamorous events like the IIFA Awards 2004, The 117th IOC meeting in Singapore (2005), Singapore Day in New York (2007), Singapore Day in Melbourne (2008), Spotlight Singapore in Moscow (2009), World Expo, Singapore Pavilion in Aichi, Japan (2005), ITB Berlin 2006 and The Singapore Season (2007) in Shanghai and Beijing.

His recent movie credits include Royston Tan's hit movie 881 (nominated for Best Costume Design in The 44th Golden Horse Awards, Taiwan) and 12 Lotus. He has also contributed his time as resident designer, supporting a series of ChildAid charity concerts since 2011; and the annual Miss Singapore International (National Costume).

His recent project includes The World Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea in May, W!ld Rice’s Panto Hansel & Gretel (2012) & Michael Chiang’s latest musical, High Class (2013).

Moe is the owner and creative director of his costume boutique Moephosis Concepts Pte Ltd, located at #84, Joo Chiat Road, together with his dedicated, dynamic team of costumers, seamstresses and costume co-ordinators.
