Janani Sridhar

Janani recently received the 2005 HSBC Youth Excellence Award for musical excellence, presented to her by President S R Nathan, in July.

At the 58th Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales, Janani stood tall and put Singapore on the world map of music when she clinched first place in the category of "Vocal Solo Under 16".

Still only 15 years old, the cheerful student of St Margaret's Secondary School was also an active performer with the Singapore Lyric Opera (SLO). Under the Junior Opera Programme SLO and has taken to the stage in many of its performances including Around the World in 80 Minutes, Adventures of the Monkey King, Opera Delights, an open house recital at the Esplanade and 10 Sopranos in Concert.

Janani has also performed at the National Arts Council's Patron of the Arts Award Ceremony, the National Heritage Board's Heritage Festival 2003 and was commissioned to do the National Day Video themed "40 under 40. She played the lead role of Anne Shirley in her school musical, Anne of Green Gables, in an effort to help her school raise funds and earned her the EAGLES Award from the Ministry of Education.
