Eric Zhu Qiyuan

Eric Qiyuan Zhu was appointed in 2007 as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of Sichuan Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, a professional symphony orchestra of its kind within all the conservatories in China. Since 2005, he has established the first orchestra season in Sichuan Province .In recent years he has collaborated with directors from Zurich and US opera houses in the premiers of La Traviata and Tosca in West China. He also for the first performed many contemporary works of the 20th century. For his Achievement in the development of opera and symphony music in Sichuan,he was granted the prize of "Sichuan Distinguished International Expert" by the Education Department of Sichuan Province.In 2007 and 2008 season , he is going to perform in US and Singapore. In China he will continuously act as guest conductor of Xiamen Philharmonic Symphony and Xi'an Conservatory of Music, and was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of Kunming Symphony Orchestra.

He was educated in Shanghai and St.Louis Conservatory. He studied with some of the world leading conductors including David Zinman (Aspen) and David Effron (Indiana University) and became the assistant to Paul Nadler (MET Opera) and George Manahan (NY Opera). In 1998 he was named music director of Columbia Music Festival Orchestra and Carolina Ballet in S.C USA and became artistic director of sterling chamber player for ten years.
