Andrew Sinclair, Melbourne born, has directed productions for all the major Australian Opera companies. From 1983-1985 he was Principal Resident Director of The Australian Opera. The video of his production of La Bohème for that company won an International TV Emmy Award in Los Angeles in 1989.
He is a Resident Director with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, staging revivals of Don Pasquale, Tosca, Peter Grimes, Der Rosenkavelier, Katya Kabanova, Ariadne auf Naxos and Werther in addition to directing a semi-staged version of Wagner’s Ring at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
He has a busy career in the United States where he has directed Le Nozze Di Figaro (Seattle), Norma (San Francisco), La Bohème (Denver), Lohengrin, Aida, Lucia Di Lammermoor, Maria Stuarda, Tosca, and La Traviata (all for San Diego Opera), and a highly successful production of The Pearl Fishers for San Diego Opera also seen in Detroit, San Francisco, New York, Miami, Washington D.C., Montreal, Denver and Minnesota.
His engagements have taken him to the Wexford and Bayreuth Festivals, Hong Kong (Coronation of Poppea), Buenos Aires (Lohengrin), Savolinna (Peter Grimes), Bologna (I Masnadieri) and Singapore (Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci and La Bohème).
Future plans include The Pearl Fishers in both Pittsburgh and Detroit.
