ABOUT THE OPERA CHROUSThe Singapore Lyric Opera (SLO) Chorus was established in 1990. Since its debut in the SLO’s inaugural production of Die Zauberflöte in 1991, the SLO Chorus has been performing an indispensable role in all of the Company’s productions and concerts. The Chorus has performed with distinguished opera directors such as Tom Hawkes, Andrew Sinclair, Paul-Emile Fourny, David Edwards and renowned local director Ivan Heng. Their recent repertoire includes Puccini’s Turandot (2008), Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann (2009), Puccini’s La Bohème (2010) and Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (2010). The Company also provides opportunities for opera singers to understudy and play minor roles in all productions, concerts and education programmes. JOINING THE CHORUSAs part of our mission to produce world-class performances, the Singapore Lyric Opera (SLO) Chorus aims to be a chorus of excellence, and we are always striving to improve our standard and quality.
AuditionWe are always on the look out for new members who share our vision of quality music making. Please contact SLO for an audition. You should have the following skills:
Candidates should prepare 2 songs/pieces that will best show the quality of your singing, one of which should be an opera aria. Art songs and show tunes can also be used for your audition. As you will mostly be performing the classical repertoire, we will need to exclude the following types of music for your audition:
You need not memorise your pieces, although it will be advantageous if you can; most of the performances will require you to memorise your music. You should also bring along extra copies of your pieces for the auditioning panel and the accompanist. The company will provide you with an accompanist at no extra cost, but if you wish to bring along your own accompanist, you may do so. |
